Leaving Tignes, the road descends through rugged upper Tarentaise terrain past reservoirs and exposed mountain slopes towards Bourg-Saint-Maurice. From there, the N90 heads west through Moûtiers and Albertville before the A43 motorway continues towards Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport.

On Saturday mornings, the N90 between Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Moûtiers carries heavy outbound traffic from the upper Tarentaise resorts. The upper road from Tignes can also slow during snowfall before reaching the valley floor.

Tignes runs across different altitudes, and the name alone isn't enough to find you. Le Lac and Val Claret are the two main hubs — most hotels and apartments are split between these two.
