After departure from Grenoble Alpes–Isère Airport, the route follows fast motorway sections towards Chambéry and Albertville before entering the Tarentaise corridor. Grenoble Airport is located in the Isère countryside rather than directly beside Grenoble city, and most winter passengers use it specifically for transfers to the French Alps. Near La Léchère, the road leaves the main valley and climbs towards Valmorel through forested slopes and smaller alpine villages. The final section feels quieter than the busier Tarentaise resort roads, with traditional chalet-style architecture appearing as the road approaches the resort centre.
