The journey starts with the short drive out of Geneva Airport and across the French border, usually without delays apart from occasional controls or weekday evening traffic around Geneva. After joining the motorway southbound, the route heads towards Annecy and its well-known lake framed by steep mountain slopes. Depending on traffic levels, the driver may avoid busier lakeside sections before continuing through the lower valleys around Ugine and Albertville.
