The return from Chamonix follows the Arve Valley northwest on the A40 motorway through Sallanches, Cluses, and Bonneville towards Geneva. The road remains relatively direct compared with many alpine resort returns, with no major mountain climb involved. The border crossing into Switzerland is usually quick outside peak periods.

Saturday traffic on the A40 between Chamonix and Geneva can build up, particularly near Cluses. Any incident or snowfall can extend the journey, especially approaching the border area.

The Chamonix-Mont-Blanc valley stretches for around 15 km and the name alone doesn't tell us where to find you. Confirm the full address and which village you're staying in when you book. The road runs from Les Bossons in the south through Chamonix centre, Les Praz, Les Tines, Argentière, all the way to Le Tour and Vallorcine near the Swiss border. If your chalet sits on a track off the main road — and many do, especially around Argentière — include whatever directions your host has given you. We'll find you.

In peak ski season, we often recommend departing 2–3 hours earlier than you might expect. Mountain traffic on busy Saturdays can add significant time to the journey. You may end up waiting longer at the airport — but that's a much better outcome than missing your flight.
