Leaving Tignes, the road descends through exposed mountain terrain past reservoirs and rocky slopes towards Bourg-Saint-Maurice. On Saturday mornings, the N90 between Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Moûtiers carries heavy outbound traffic from the upper Tarentaise resorts. The upper road from Tignes can also slow during snowfall before reaching the valley floor.
