Leaving Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, the road passes through wooded slopes and riverside sections towards Le Fayet before joining the A40 motorway at Sallanches. The route then follows the Arve Valley northwest through Cluses and Bonneville towards Geneva. The border crossing into Switzerland is usually quick outside busy periods.
