The resort is compact but busy: pedestrians move through the same streets as vehicles, and after a snowfall or on a Saturday changeover it takes longer than the distance suggests. Our drivers do this route throughout the season and know when to leave to stay ahead of the congestion.
Chamonix sits at 1035 m in a long valley running northeast to southwest, with the Mont Blanc massif on one side and the Aiguilles Rouges on the other. The valley has several distinct sections — Les Houches at the western entrance, then Chamonix centre, Les Praz, Les Tines, Argentière, and Vallorcine toward the Swiss border.
