From Lyon Part-Dieu or Perrache, the route heads east on the A43 motorway through the foothills of the Alps towards Chambéry. After passing the lakes and mountain ridges surrounding the Chambéry basin, the transfer continues through Albertville before following the N90 into the Tarentaise Valley.
For Les Arcs, the route continues to Bourg-Saint-Maurice before climbing towards the different Arc villages. The ascent becomes progressively steeper and more mountainous, especially above Arc 1600, with broad views across the Tarentaise Valley.
Under normal conditions, the journey takes around 2 h 50 min, depending on traffic and weather. During winter weekends and peak ski season, travel times may increase. Traffic delays are most common on the Albertville–Bourg-Saint-Maurice section of the N90. The final climb to Les Arcs can also become busy during peak Saturday arrivals.
