The transfer begins with a short cross-border section from Geneva Airport into France. Most journeys pass straight through without stopping, though occasional border checks are still possible. After joining the A41 motorway, the road heads south towards Annecy, known for its canals and lakeside old town. From there, the route skirts Lake Annecy with changing views across the water and surrounding mountains before continuing through Faverges, Ugine, and Albertville. The journey then joins the N90, the main alpine road serving the Tarentaise resorts. Beyond Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the road climbs steadily towards La Rosière near the Italian border. The final ascent is more open and panoramic than many Tarentaise routes, with views across the upper valley and surrounding peaks as the road approaches the resort.
Under normal conditions, the journey takes around 2 h 50 min, depending on traffic and weather. During winter weekends and peak ski season, travel times may increase. Winter congestion often affects the N90 near Bourg-Saint-Maurice, especially during Saturday changeovers. Snowfall can also slow the upper road to La Rosière.
